Xbox One sales surpass 1 million consoles sold in the UK

Microsoft's Xbox One has finally surpassed the 1 million sales barrier in the UK, after outselling Sony's PS4 for three weeks straight.

The news comes from unnamed UK retailers, who reported their sales to British video game website MCV. Particularly encouraging, said Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle, is that this bump in sales is coming ahead of Christmas - traditionally one of the most important times for video game console sales.

Xbox One's success over the PS4 is no doubt due to its exclusives, like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which remains a huge selling point for the Xbox One despite some multiplayer and connectivity issues since its release on November 11th.

This news comes just over a week after Microsoft announced 10 million worldwide sales to retailers of the Xbox One. In the same announcement, Microsoft claimed that its console had been outselling the PS4 for the past two weeks in the United States, which means (at the very least) that the Xbox One has been outperforming the PS4 in multiple countries during a very important timeframe.

This Saturday also marks the Xbox One's one year anniversary, which Microsoft plans to celebrate by giving away free gamer pictures and backgrounds, as well as free rentals of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Some Xbox One owners will also be selected (at random) to receive a larger prize, including an Xbox One Special Edition Sunset Overdrive Bundle, a 12-month membership code, and much more.
