ASRock claims to have first Windows 8 certified motherboard

A PC motherboard maker claims it is the first such company to have its products certified to work on Windows 8. In a press release this week, Taiwan-based ASRock shows the proof that their motherboards got the thumbs-up from Microsoft for the certification. ASRock was originally a part of Asus but was spun off from that company but it is still owned by Asus subsidiary Pegatron Corporation.

James Lee, the vice president of Sales and Marketing at ASRock, has a rather ... colorful ... reaction to the news in the press release:

As a leader in mobo industry, it's our mission to bring the most fresh tech kit to users.  Starting at ASRock motherboard, any ignoramus was able to reach every aspect of hardware. Users were able to select the right motherboard for their requirements.

ASRock did not give any information on what specific motherboards got the coveted Windows 8 certification in the press release itself. However, another image posted in their announcement reveals that the company's H61M-HVS motherboard did get the Windows 8 certified label; it contains two dual-channel DDR3 memory slots, one PCI-E x16 slot, one PCI-E x1 slot and four SATA 3Gbps ports.
