Google Chrome's current profile experience is a bit confusing, especially if you're sharing a computer with other members of the family. While the browser already allows you to swap between profiles and keep your custom settings, the option to switch to your personal space isn't as straightforward as you'd like.
That's changing now with a new update to Chrome. Google announced today that Chrome's profile experience on desktop is getting an overhaul that makes it easier to switch between profiles and create your own customizations.
The latest change includes a new account picker that shows up when you launch Chrome, letting you sign in to your own profile before using the browser. Of course, there's an option for a Guest mode and you can also easily add another profile. In addition, you can create a new account and assign a color scheme to it. This option makes it easier to distinguish one account from another.
Just like before, you can access your extensions, saved passwords, history, themes, and bookmarks when you sign in to Chrome using your own profile. Additionally, you can sync those settings between multiple devices. The revamped profile experience on Chrome is rolling out over the next few weeks.
Google also announced that the ability to add articles to your reading list to read later is now available on Chrome for Android and desktop. This feature was previously available only on iOS when Chrome 57 came out.
