The Coalition is preparing a premium expansion to Gears 5, bringing the first add-on that will expand on the story campaign. Titled Hivebusters, the newly announced expansion is launching on December 15, and in addition to being available as a paid piece of content, it will also be a part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription at launch.
Hivebusters explores the story behind the Hivebuster program, which has so far been a part of Gears 5 as its Escape multiplayer mode. The three-hour-long story content will follow Lahni, Keegan, and Mac's "Scorpio Squad" as they tackle a suicide mission to destroy a Swarm Hive in Galangi islands.
Three player co-op play, online or split-screen, will be available, and for the first time, Ultimate Abilities from multiplayer are coming as a feature to the campaign. Xbox Series X|S enhancements like fast load times, quick resume, VRR, and 4K HDR visuals, as well as 16 new achievements are included in the package too.
