Earlier this year, Instagram tweaked its feed sorting algorithm to prioritize recent posts on the app’s feed. This was done so that newer posts were more likely to appear at the top of the feed, ensuring that users did not miss out on recent posts. In conjunction with this change, it was also reported that the company was working on bringing a “You’re All Caught Up” prompt to the app, providing a visual cue to users that they’ve caught up on all the posts. However, there was some ambiguity regarding how the prompt would work.
That changes today, as the Facebook-owned photo and video-sharing company officially announced that the nifty feature is rolling out to its iOS and Android apps. The “You’re All Caught Up” prompt shows up on the feed like a little divider when a user has scrolled through and “seen every post from the last two days”. The feature is indeed neat, helping users keep track of their feed depending on how frequently they use the app. Posts that have been viewed or that are older than 48 hours will be placed below the message.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom previously confirmed on Twitter that the company was working on time management tools, references to which were found in the app’s Android application package. These features are part of the tech industry’s increasing emphasis on “Digital Wellbeing” and the efforts to limit users’ phone usage. However, there is no information on when the rumored ‘Usage Insight’ feature would make it to the broader audience.
