Cortana unites with Xbox Live to provide users with personalized game information in Windows 10

Windows Central reports that Cortana in Windows 10 can now provide users with information related to games via integration with Microsoft's Xbox Live service.

This capability, which is also available to users who are not registered as Windows Insiders, can be accessed via the Connected Accounts option which is included as part of Cortana's Notebook feature.

As expected, users are required to provide their Xbox Live (i.e., Microsoft Account) credentials to Cortana in order to combine the two services. Once a relationship between the two services has been established, users can configure Cortana to provide a more personalized gaming experience.

As shown in the screenshot above, all of the features that are enabled as part of Cortana's integration with Xbox Live are within her role as a personal assistant. As usual, she can provide users with relevant notifications, offers, and updates based on their interests, but this information will also focus on games. Cortana will also be able to schedule game sessions and notify users about the online availability of their Xbox Live friends.

The news that Cortana can unite with Microsoft's Xbox Live service follows the company's recent announcement that it intends to make the personal assistant available for the Xbox One console itself by 2016. If this capability is of any indication, the personal assistant has the potential to enable an unprecedented level of integration across Microsoft's gaming platforms and services.
