Dell CEO's daughter in Twitter security scare

Alexa Dell, daughter of Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell, has been very active on the social networking scene, using Twitter and Tumblr like any other teenage girl does.

This may sound harmless, but as Alexa has been posting, many of the posts have been stamped a GPS location, showing exactly where it was sent from. This opens up the possibility that any potential attacker or kidnapper would know exactly where to find her or the family at the time of posting. And if something were to happen, it would put into question the $2.7 million a year Michael Dell is paying to maintain his families security.

As a father myself, it’s a scary thought. I know I will probably give my kids a reasonable amount of freedom, but depending on how social networking evolves, I would be very sceptical in allowing my kids to engage in some of the activities and basic functionality that Twitter, Facebook et al offer.

It’s an amusing story, even if there is a darker tone that is hopefully getting across. I’ve been tagged in posts when my wife and I go out for dinner, or go on day trips with the kids. But then again, I’m not worth $15.9 billion!
