Gaming news round-up: December 1

We have reached the month of December. Where in the world has the time gone? Let's ponder that while checking out the latest game news:

Free play this weekend for Brink PC - Anyone can now play the full version of Splash Damage's FPS via Steam from now until 4 pm Eastern time on Sunday. The PC version game is also on sale for just $4.99 this weekend on Steam or just $6.25 for the game and all of its expansion packs.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim PC mod tools coming in January - Bethesda Softworks will release the Creation Kit for the hit RPG in January, which will let PC owners of the game create their own mods. In addition, the game will support Steam Workshop which will let mod makers upload their creations and let every Skyrim PC owner download and rate them.

Hitman developers plan to make new original game - Io Interactive, the creators of the Hitman game franchise, will begin work on an all new original game after it completes work on Hitman: Absolution sometime in 2012.

EA acquires KickNation - Electronic Arts has bought the game developer KickNation which develops free-to-play Facebook games such as Superhero City, Age of Champions and Six Gun Galaxy. The studio will be renamed BioWare Sacramento. No financial details were revealed.

Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand DLC coming later in December - EA has confirmed that the first DLC map pack for the first person shooter Battlefield 3, featuring remakes of maps from previous Battlefield games, will be released for the PS3 on December 6 and for the Xbox 360 and PC on December 13.
