Google calls it quits on Chrome OS tablets; chooses to focus efforts on laptops

Remember the Pixel Slate? Apparently, Google wasn't trying to offer the product as a one-off and had a couple of smaller tablets also in the works. Unfortunately, it looks like those plans will never come to fruition according to new information, as the firm has stopped all work on two unannounced units and will instead focus its efforts on laptops instead.

Computerworld's JR Raphael shared the news today, speaking with a Google spokesperson who confirmed that it would not be working on any more tablets for the foreseeable future. The news was initially shared with employees during a company meeting on Wednesday, with the firm looking to find new positions for those that were involved in the tablet projects. According to Raphael, many have already begun working for the laptop team.

It has been a couple of years since the announcement of the firm's Pixelbook and there have been plenty of rumors about a proper successor. So now that tablets won't be a focus for Google, maybe we will finally see a new laptop sometime this year.
