Intel announced this week that it's discontinuing its Kaby Lake-G chips. The last ones will ship at the end of July next year, and Intel has various dates marked between now and then to phase out the product family.
Kaby Lake-G was a somewhat unique product, as the CPU was bundled with AMD Radeon RX Vega discrete graphics on the die. The CPU portion of the chip was similar to Intel's seventh-generation 'Kaby Lake H' family, so the main difference is that it was bundled with dedicated graphics, rather than OEMs having to include a separate GPU.
That allowed for slimmer and lighter form factors, even with a TDP between 65W and 100W. Kaby Lake-G was only found in a select few products though, with the initial launch devices being the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 and the HP Spectre x360 15.
It's unclear if Intel plans to refresh the product, although it seems unlikely, at least with AMD Radeon graphics. Intel has been promoting its latest Gen11 graphics that are included in its new 10nm Ice Lake processors, although Ice Lake, in its current form, doesn't fit the same use case as Kaby Lake-G did. The company is working on its own discrete graphics, so it's possible that someday, we'll see a similar product with dedicated Intel graphics.
