Earlier this year, Sega and Creative Assembly announced Total War: Warhammer III, the next entry in the popular turn-based and real-time strategy series set in Games Workshop's fantasy universe. However, while the original plan was to bring the game out on PC in 2021, it has now been pushed back to next year.

Creative Assembly announced the delay today via a tweet, explaining "we know this is disappointing, but the extra time means we can accomplish more than we could if we rushed to release this year." Total War: Warhammer III will now launch in early 2022. No specific dates were revealed today.

"The new date will make for a stronger release and the best first step into a new era for Total War: Warhammer," said chief product officer Rob Bartholomew. "We don’t consider this release the end of our trilogy, but the start of years of content and support as we continue to bring the jaw-dropping scale of Games Workshop’s fantasy universe to Total War.

While fans will be waiting a little longer for their fantasy strategy fix with this change, the studio will continue to release more information about the upcoming title in the remaining months. Kicking things off will be a reveal of the Grand Cathay human civilization tomorrow.

Total War: Warhammer III is coming out on Windows, macOS, and Linux across Steam and Epic Games Store with a $59.99 price tag.
