Xbox One to get themes, custom backgrounds and screenshots

Microsoft keeps on rolling out improvements to the Xbox One, and the latest October Update includes support for MKV streaming via the Media Player app and a completely redesigned 'Friends' section, among other enhancements.

A future update will bring some welcome additions for those eager to customize the look and feel of the console's user interface. Microsoft's head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that the company is already working on giving users more freedom to customize the UI, as well as the ability to capture screenshots.

Speaking with The Inner Circle Podcast from XboxMAD, Spencer said: "I'll announce it here - I was told themes and background pics are something that we are working on, and screenshots - I know people beat me up on screenshots - [these are] things that we're working on."

He added: "I know some people like to customize the look of their dash. And I think both themes, backgrounds and screenshots are things that I know people want. We're going to deliver them. I can't give you a 'when' yet, but people should know they are in development."

Spencer also said that the Xbox team has "done a great job with the monthly updates. Some things are just a prioritization of time and development."
