QTTabBar is a Shell-Extension to add Tab functionality to Windows Explorer - folder window. Besides, QTTabBar provides various features that certainly help you deal with files and folders.
Most of the functionalities are activated when you enable the toolbars offered by QTTabBar in a folder window. Tab Bar realizes ... the tabbed browsing of folders. Command Bars offer various command buttons including ones added by Plug-Ins. Extra Views of course show extra folder view in a folder window. Once you enable them, QTTabBar installs some kind of hooks into the folder window and change the behavior of the Explorer to suit the need of advanced users. For example, a new tab will be opened by middle-clicking on a folder icon. Preview tooltip is displayed when you point image, text, and movie file by mouse cursor. Do you want to mark an important file? Change the color of the name of it. When you move mouse cursor over folder icons, you'll see a square with blue arrow. Click and access to contents of the folder instantly!
QTTabBar also displays Preview Window on media files: image, movie, sound, and text.
Supported file types
- Movie and music - Everything that Windows Media Player can play.
- Album art images are displayed in music preview window if any embedded.
- Also supports Play List file such as .m3u, .m3u8, .pls, .wpl files.
- Picture - Currently supports .bmp, .dib, .rle, .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .jfif, .gif, .emf, .wmf, .tif, .tiff, .png, .wdp image files.
- Other file types that thumbnails are displayed in Folder View, such as Office files, are also previewed if you add those file extensions to Option Window.
- Text - Automatically detects encodings of text files. (Sometimes fails, though...)
- By default, QTTabBar tries to play these movie and music file extensions : .3gp, .3g2, .asf, .asx, .au, .avi, .dvr-ms, .fla, .flac, .flv, .m1v, .m3u, .m3u8, .m4a, .m4v, .mid, .midi, .mka, .mkv, .mov, .mp2, .mp3, .mp4, .mpeg, .mpg, .oga, .ogg, .ogv, .ogx, .pls, .rm, .snd, .spx, .vob, .wav, .webm, .wma, .wmv, .wpl.

- You can select files by typing some characters of middle of file names.
- IFilter plug-in can be used in incremental search in view.
- It might be useful if an IFilter plugin is installed that translates alphabetical inputs into Chinese/Japanese/Korean regular expressions.

- Original right-button drag-and-drop menu is now abandoned.
- Nothing happens when files are dropped onto executables in Command Bar.
- Fails to open a folder in Quick access of Windows10 when its name contains a comma.
- Menu renderer problems in RTL and High-DPI environments.
- Now uses CurrentUICulture (UI Language) instead of CurrentCulture (Region) to detect RTL environment.
- Window flickers on opening.
- Drop helper won't work when target is a link.
