Battlefield 2042 delayed, now landing on November 19

Even more game delays are coming in fast, and the latest title to be hit is a surprisingly big release: Battlefield 2042. Thankfully for fans, it's not a massive shake up, with DICE's first-person shooter now releasing on November 19, 2021.

As for why the last-minute change to the original October 22 launch date, publisher Electronic Arts and development teams at DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect said in a joint statement on Twitter that the ongoing pandemic is to blame.

"Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch," goes on the statement. "With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players."

With Call of Duty: Vanguard planned for November 5 and Halo Infinite (with free multiplayer) landing on December 8, Battlefield 2042's launch will now be neatly sandwiched between two behemoth shooter games.

One piece of good news for Battlefield fans is that the game's delay may not affect the planned pre-release public test sessions. Information regarding the much-anticipated open beta will be made available later this month.

Battlefield 2042 is releasing across PC (Origin, Steam, and Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The title won't have a campaign, and instead it will offer a wide variety of multiplayer options with up to 128-player battles. The multiple development studios are working on separate elements, including an in-depth Custom Game builder named Portal with content from previous Battlefields and, reportedly, an Escape from Tarkov-like experience.
