Flipboard launches ad-supported version of Flipboard TV on Android and iOS

Flipboard introduced an ad-free video service in February of this year, called Flipboard TV with a monthly fee of $2.99. At that time, the service was available only on Samsung's Galaxy S20 devices, offering collections of videos from publishers and local TV stations.

Today, the news aggregator announced an ad-supported version of Flipboard TV, now available on all devices in the U.S. The service's expansion adds several new publishers to the platform in addition to existing media partners that have joined Flipboard TV when it first launched. New publishers include Dow Jones, Gannett, Hearst Magazines, Complex Networks, Minute Media, A360 Media, Group Nine Media, The Recount, Bonnier Corp, Refinery29 and Vice Media Group, and Penske Media Corporation. There are video feeds from various independent producers as well.

For Samsung Galaxy device owners only, Flipboard TV offers the option to upgrade to its ad-free experience for an exclusive access to premium content. The service is accessible via a new section in the Explore tab, where there's a native support for playback as well as more player controls to skip a video.

You'll also see pre-roll video ads. Additionally, publishers and creators can add content to Storyboards, a Flipboard feature meant for creating curated content about particular topics. Also, when you visit the profile pages of media companies and creators, you'll see a dedicated tab for videos. Content from local newspapers and TV stations can also be found in Flipboard’s Local sections. Finally, there's a “For You” feed where videos appear based on editorial and algorithmic curation for a more personal experience.
