Jif and GIPHY team up on peanut butter that will show you how to say GIF correctly

Anyone who pronounces GIF with a soft G has at some point in their life been told that no, Jif is a brand of peanut butter. Well now, it's the team-up that the world has been waiting for. Jif and GIPHY are partnering up to settle the score on whether GIF if pronounced GIF or, well, GIF.

"We’re teaming up with GIPHY to put a lid on this decade-long debate and prove there is only one Jif… it’s creamy, delicious peanut butter, not a looping picture you can send to make friends and family laugh," said Rebecca Scheidler, Vice President, Marketing of Jif. "So spread the word like Jif on bread—Jif is peanut butter, GIFs are animations!"

Not only are the two companies out to set the record straight, but you can actually buy your own limited edition jar of Gif peanut butter. One side says that GIFs with a hard G are animated looping images, and Jif is creamy peanut butter. On the lid, it says, "If you've ever called a GIF a "Jif", we forgive you."

"At GIPHY, we know there’s only one Jif and it’s peanut butter. If you’re looking for all the GIFs, there’s only one GIPHY," said Alex Chung, founder and CEO of GIPHY. "If you’re a soft G, please visit Jif.com. If you’re a hard G, thank you, we know you’re right. Whether you like your Gs hard or soft, let’s all share some fun and let peanut butter unite us in saying GIF and eating Jif."

The promotion is timed for National Peanut Butter Lover's Day, which falls on March 1, and frankly, it's all in the name of good fun. If you want your own jar of Gif peanut butter, you can pick one up on Amazon now for $9.99.
