Microsoft confirms WP 8.1 freezing issues with Lumia 925 and 1020; patch on the way

If you are a Lumia 925 or 1020 owner and in the Developer Preview program, then it's likely that you already have Windows Phone 8.1 on your device along with an annoying problem that causes both models to freeze under certain conditions.

The only known workaround for now is by setting detailed status (for apps like Weather and Calendar on the lockscreen/Glance) to none, as well as disabling the lockscreen password and reducing the Glance active state to 30 seconds if set higher.

Microsoft's Kevin Lee confirmed the issue and posted to a support topic specific to the Lumia 1020 with the following:

Beginning in early September we started to receive an increased number of customer feedback regarding Microsoft Lumia 1020 and 925 device freezes. During the last two months we have been reaching out for more and more data and devices to systematically reproduce and narrow down the root cause. It turned out to be a power regulator logic failure where in combination with multiple reasons the device fails to power up the CPU and peripherals after idling into a deep sleep state.

Lee further added:

I am pleased to pass on that we have a fix candidate under validation which we expect to push out the soon with the next SW update!
Appreciate your patience.

So it looks like a software patch is on the way, no dates were given in the topic but it goes without saying that users in the Developer Preview will most likely get it sooner than those limited to carrier roll outs. The fix could be included with the Lumia Denim update which is expected to start rolling out this month.
