Microsoft releases Twitter application for Zune HD

Microsoft's recently-released Zune HD was exciting for some in the way that it would feature applications, similar to its competitors. Keeping with its promise of free software, Microsoft has today unleashed a Zune HD Twitter application, following the release of the mobile Bing app for Apple's iPhone.

The announcement was fittingly made from the Zune account on Twitter a couple hours ago, stating that the application was making its way through the store and that it should be available right now. The application is free, as mentioned, and will allow users to update & read updates from their Twitter account, providing a Wi-Fi connection is available. Before this application, users had to visit the mobile Twitter page from their web browsers on the device, but this provided a less-than-elegant solution, with no way to cache data offline in order to speed things up a bit.

A Facebook app has also been promised to arrive soon, though there's no exact date on when that'll hit. For those of you owning a Zune HD, go and nab the app from the Marketplace now, and let us know how it goes; please note that some people on Twitter are reporting that they still can't see it yet, so if you can't either, be patient.
