Nearly a year after its acquisition of Revolution Analytics, Microsoft has released free and enterprise-grade versions of Microsoft R to the public including free access for students and developers.

Microsoft has announced that it will be joinging as a founding member of the R Consortium formed by the Linux Foundation along side Google and Oracle for creating a vibrant data science community.
After acquiring Moodle and Equivio in the past couple of days, Microsoft has also announced its plans to acquire Revolution Analytics to help customers find big data value with statistical analysis.
