Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition coming to Nintendo Switch this August

Obsidian Entertainment's acclaimed RPG epic Pillars of Eternity is breaching a new platform soon, as the previously announced Nintendo Switch version has now been given a release date, launching August 8 through the Nintendo eShop.

The soon-releasing title will be the first entry from the RPG series to arrive for the hybrid console. Pillars of Eternity originally released in 2015 for PC following a massively successful $4 million Kickstarter campaign, with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions landing in 2017. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire console versions are also in development, including for the Switch, but no specific release date has been announced yet other than Obsidian confirming a 2019 launch.

Both Switch ports of the Pillars of Eternity series are being worked on by Versus Evil, the company that went on to publish the sequel with Obsidian in 2018. Versus Evil says that all major updates from the PC version are included in this Switch edition, including enhanced AI, a higher level cap, and more difficulty settings.

As this is the Complete Edition, in addition to the vast base game, Switch owners will be receiving the two White March expansion episodes with the package as well. The game will be playable in both docked and handheld modes, and the store page lists the installation size as 15.8GB.

Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition is now available for pre-purchase via the Nintendo eShop at a discounted price of $39.99, which will jump up to $49.99 once the game releases on August 8.
