Casio debuts its $500 rugged Android Wear smartwatch with mapping capabilities

While there were quite a few Android Wear devices on the market last year, Casio was one of the first to introduce a smartwatch with a distinct purpose. The rugged WSD-F10 was a unique offering that catered to those that needed a smartwatch that could survive an active lifestyle. A year later, Casio returns to CES offering an improved iteration, the Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20, looking to solidify itself further in the world of smartwatches.

While not all that different from its predecessor, the Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20 adds a couple of key features that could make it the ideal Android Wear smartwatch. First and foremost, the watch offers the same dual-layer display that allows it to conserve battery power when necessary. It is also water resistant up to 50 meters and meets the MIL-STD-810G standard for drops. But, what makes the WSD-F20 special is its ability to offer mapping and guidance. The watch can store map data for offline trekking which makes it ideal for those that might be adventuring where cellular service is unavailable.

The Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F20 will retail for $500 and will be available in Orange and Black. The rugged smartwatch will arrive on the market on April 21.
