Office Insiders on iOS get split view for Excel, dark mode, and more

As June ends and a new month begins, Microsoft has released its monthly updates to the Office suite of apps on iOS for Office Insiders. As you'd expect there's a few new capabilities all around, with a notable one being the addition of dark mode to the Office apps, almost one year after Microsoft initially announced its intention to bring dark mode to the Microsoft 365 suite on all platforms. Some apps, such as Outlook and To Do, had already received the feature in the past few months.

Another addition this month is support for split view in Excel. This is an iPad-exclusive feature that requires iPadOS 13 or higher, and it lets users open two instances of the same app side by side, so they can have two documents open on the same screen. This capability already supported in Word and PowerPoint, so its addition to Excel isn't all that surprising.

The bulk of the new features is in Outlook, though. For starters, search results can now be viewed in two panes if you're using an iPad, so you can see the full list of results and take actions on each item without moving between different screens. For the calendar side of Outlook, it's now possible to view week numbers by enabling the respective option in the settings. Finally, it's now possible to turn all meetings into online meetings and create links for them. This can be enabled through the user's account settings in the app.

All of these features should be rolling out now, so you may want to check for app updates on your iOS devices.
