SwiftKey now lets you customize your keyboard with Photo Themes

SwiftKey keyboard themes, which became free during the holiday season last year, used to be the default light, dark, or high contrast backgrounds, leaving you with no option but to embrace them. Well now, you can start customizing your keyboard with the introduction of Photo Themes, a new feature that allows you to upload a photo and set it as the keyboard background.

The new feature is now available to all iOS and Android users who have updated to version 6.7.1 of the SwiftKey keyboard. On top of the option to personalize the keyboard, the new feature also allows you to remove or retain the borders on the keys as well as the symbols and secondary characters on Android. On iOS, however, the customizability is limited to being able to select a key pop-up color which is only visible when a key is pressed.

You can customize the SwiftKey keyboard on iOS by opening the “Design” page and following the instructions on the screen. On Android, Photo Themes are available in the SwiftKey settings, under the “Themes” tab.

SwiftKey has also teamed up with National Geographic contributing photographer Keith Ladzinski, providing users with a gallery of 12 curated photos taken by Ladzinski, in order to boost some creative inspiration.

In conjunction with the debut of Photo Themes, SwiftKey has also launched a contest to award users who design the most creative theme. Prizes include a $150 Amazon gift card, a limited edition SwiftKey hoodie sweatshirt, and more.
