VLC for Windows Phone will be here really soon, shown off on video

If you are a Windows Phone user and have been waiting for an official VLC app, the wait is nearly over. In talking with Thomas Nigro, who is on the team building out the Windows Phone version, he dropped the hint that the release could happen before the end of the month. Thomas said that he hopes it will arrive next week but that may be a bit ambitious at this time.

If knowing that the app is almost here isn't good enough, we also have video of the app as well, but keep in mind that these videos are still of beta builds.. so anything could change before the official release. With that being said, the release is far along enough that we would not expect a major UI overhaul.

You can see an official screenshot of the app that we found while digging around on the Internet to the right that shows how the media player will organize all of your content. And of course, as the screenshot shows, playing media content from an SD card will be quite easy too.

If you are not familiar with VLC, it's a highly popular media player that can play all kinds content in a lightweight environment. The player is available on many different platforms and it looks like Windows Phone support will soon officially be added too.

If you head to the Windows Phone store, you will see that there are VLC apps in the market but they are not the official player and some are even trying to charge a premium for their app while piggybacking on the VLC name.

Thanks for the tip Thomas!
