Wear OS smartwatches will now periodically remind you to wash your hands

Google has rolled out an update for the Clock app on Wear OS to add a handwashing timer to it. Once the clock app is updated, users will automatically see a new "Hand-Wash Timer" in the app drawer of their Wear OS smartwatch.

Opening the app will start a 3-second countdown after which a 40-second timer will start. The timer will be accompanied by a circular progress ring as well. It is important that one washes their hands frequently so as to prevent the COVID-19 virus from entering their body. It is also a good hygiene practice for one to wash their hands frequently. The CDC recommends that people wash their hands for at least 20 seconds, though Google has gone a step ahead here and added a 40-second timer. Once you are done washing your hands, the app will notify you that it will again remind you to wash your hands after three hours.

Given the current times, it is important that one washes their hands frequently. If you tend to forget doing so though, your Wear OS smartwatch can now periodically remind you about it.
