Battletoads to make its return with a new installment slated for 2019

The original Battletoads, released by Rare which was acquired by Microsoft in 2002, made its debut nearly three decades ago on the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System, starring its three protagonists, Rash, Zitz, and Pimple. The game was developed in response to the rather popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise of the late 80s and early 90s. Subsequent installments were released across a variety of Sega and Nintendo consoles, with the final one having been Battletoads Arcade which made its appearance in 1994. Now, it appears that the franchise will make its return on Xbox One.

If anything, the video published on the Xbox YouTube channel with respect to the announcement is more comical than informative. However, it did make mention that it will contain "body morphing genre mash-ups, three play couch co-op, 4K hand-drawn 2.5D graphics" and "broad non-specific feature declarations". That's pretty much the extent of what was explicitly mentioned in the trailer, although, given the appearance of a hoverbike halfway through, one might wonder if they will show up in the final game.

Battletoads will make its return sometime in 2019 on the Xbox One family of consoles while a release for Windows 10 PCs was not explicitly announced.
