Final Fantasy 7 released on the iOS App Store today [Update]

During E3, Square Enix had announced that the wildly popular Final Fantasy VII game which was initially released for the first Playstation would be coming to iOS. Unfortunately during that announcement, no date was given to eager fans waiting to get a hold of the classic.

If you are one of those eagerly awaiting to play or replay this classic game on your iOS device, today is that day. This port of the classic will run on both relatively new iPad and iPhone iOS devices. It is not currently available at the US iTunes Store but will be by tonight according to Square Enix. The New Zealand iTunes Store currently has it available for $19.99 NZD.

News of the port should hold over Final Fantasy fans for a while as they await the much-anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the Playstation 4. Since this iteration of the game is not a remake in any way, do not expect updated graphics. In fact, this port is based on the PC version of Final Fantasy 7.

You require an iPhone 5s or later, iPad 3 or later, or iPad mini 2 or later to run the game on your iOS device.

Update: The game is now available in North American iTunes Stores.
