Halo 5: Guardians is free this weekend with Xbox Live Gold

In another attempt to push Cortana as an AI voice assistant, Microsoft is offering a free weekend of Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One to those with an Xbox Live Gold membership.

OK, that probably isn't the real reason, but players can download the game right now and play through the campaign or jump into multiplayer modes, such as Slayer, Capture the Flag and Quick Play, as well as the Warzone mode.

In addition, Microsoft is making the game available for 20% off the regular price - now $15.99 - for the duration of the event. The Deluxe Edition is an even better value at 50% off ($29.99). As with most free weekends, any progress you make will be saved and available if you choose to buy the game.

The free weekend ends at 10:59 p.m. PT Sunday / 1:59 a.m. ET Monday / 6:59 a.m. Monday GMT. Remember that you must have an Xbox Live Gold membership to play.
