Hulu picks up 14 new live TV channels in new ViacomCBS deal

Following an announcement in November, Hulu last month hiked its Hulu + Live TV monthly subscription prices by $10, bringing the monthly commitment up to $64.99. This increase placed the service's top package on equal footing in terms of cost with YouTube TV whose price had been raised to $64.99 several months earlier.

While the price rise may still be fresh in the minds of Hulu subscribers, there may be some good news for them after the streaming television service struck a deal with ViacomCBS. The new agreement enables Hulu to retain its delivery of existing CBS channels in addition to SHOWTIME while adding another 14 channels to the Hulu + Live TV lineup, comprised of "BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, VH1, CMT, Nick Jr., TV Land, BET Her, MTV2, NickToons, TeenNick and MTV Classic."

With respect to the announcement, Ray Hopkins, President, U.S. Networks Distribution, ViacomCBS said:

"We are excited to have reached an expanded agreement with Hulu that underscores the value of our powerful portfolio of brands to next-generation TV platforms and viewers.

Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time."

Of course, it remains to be seen as to how much more expensive streaming services, including Hulu, will become over time despite their increasing popularity and where the tipping point ends up being with consumers.
