Total War: Shogun 2 is now free to claim on Steam

Creative Assembly has begun a giveaway for Total War: Shogun 2, the widely well-received strategy game from 2011. The promotion arrives alongside an almost franchise-wide sale for Total War.

One of the most well-received Total War games to come out of Creative Assembly is being given away. Total War: Shogun 2 is now available to claim for free through Steam, kicking off a four-day giveaway.

Released in 2011, Shogun 2 is set in 16th-century feudal Japan where multiple warlords and their clans fight for control over the land. As usual, players will be utilizing turn-based gameplay in the overworld map when dealing with empire and troop building while the real-time fighting takes place when armies clash.

"The past few weeks have presented unimaginable challenges for many of us," said Creative Assembly regarding the promotion. "But the remarkable collective effort being made by the global community to overcome this moment of adversity has been truly inspirational."

"With this in mind, we want to continue to encourage you all to stay home and save lives by extending a gift to everyone to help make this difficult situation a little bit easier."

Aside from the giveaway, other Total War games and DLC have received discounts on Steam, though there seem to be some technical issues holding it back, at the time of publishing this article. Only Three Kingdoms, Rome, and Warhammer titles are missing in these new promotions.

The Total War: Shogun 2 giveaway is now live on Steam and is slated to last until May 1. The Total War Sale, on the other hand, will keep its doors open until May 4.
