Enhanced security algorithms are to blame for slow fingerprint scan on the Pixel 6

Prior to the introduction of Google's Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google had utilized the back of the phone for scanning the user's fingerprint. The fingerprint scanner has now been moved to the front with new technologies including an in-display scanner. Unfortunately, as modern as the design may arguably be, it has caused a fair bit of grievance when it comes to fingerprint scanning unlock times.

Although there have been some users who were wondering if a software fix might be the solution to the problem, Google replied in a tweet that it is due to "enhanced security algorithms" that the long unlock times are now occurring. According to the company's response, it would seem that due to the longer authentication requirements in some instances and the need for more precise placement of a users finger on the display on others, is causing the longer unlock times.

Google did say it planned to introduce a software update to fix screen flickering on the Pixel 6 Pro but, as of now, it has not stated that it is able to, or willing, to release a software update which can accelerate the rate at which fingerprint scanning can unlock the phone.
