Sea of Thieves has been played by over 10 million players since launch

Over 10 million players have entered the Sea of Thieves since the adventure game's launch almost two years ago. Developed by Rare, the Microsoft platform exclusive game arrived to Xbox One and Windows 10, both as a standard premium paid title and as part of the Xbox Game Pass program, becoming the first Xbox Game Studios release to land on the service at launch.

Sea of Thieves has become the "most successful new IP from Xbox" of this generation, managing to get the attention of players from over eighty different countries.

To celebrate the milestone, Rare is going to be giving away a couple of limited-edition gifts in Sea of Thieves to anyone who logs into the title from January 15 through January 22. These will be custom sails and a brand new emote. January 15 is also when the game's next monthly content update will be landing, dubbed Legends of the Seas. More information about this update will be revealed closer to its release.

Rare executive producer Joe Neate ended the milestone announcement thanking players and promising big things for the game in the coming year:

"Once again, on behalf of everyone at Rare I’d like to say thank you to everyone who’s been on this journey with us so far. The best news is that we’re just getting started and have big plans for the coming year. See you on the seas!"

Alongside supporting Sea of Thieves, Rare is also working on the other new IP it announced during X019, Everwild. Though it may be a while before we see any release dates being attached to this venture.
