Back in December, details emerged of a new device from Indian hardware brand XOLO: the Win Q1000. The handset has now been confirmed as XOLO's new Windows Phone, as an information page has been quietly added to the company's website.
The Win Q1000 appears to be a successor to XOLO's only Windows Phone so far, the Win Q900s, which went on sale last year. The new handset comes with Windows Phone 8.1, and its key specs include:
- 5-inch IPS LCD with HD (1280x720px) resolution
- Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB onboard storage (plus microSD support up to 32GB)
- 8MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video recording
- 2MP front-facing camera
- Bluetooth 4.0
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- 2200mAh battery
- 143 x 71.3 x 8.8mm
While the older Win W900s was promoted as the "world's lightest smartphone", weighing just 100g, XOLO hasn't yet revealed the weight of the new Win Q1000 - but its site does state that the device is pretty slim, at just 8.8mm thick.
It's worth noting that the new device appears virtually identical - down to the exact placement of the speaker grilles, cameras and microphone - to another Windows Phone 8.1 handset, the Blu Win HD. Indeed, even the bright yellow colour option available on the Q1000 matches that of the Blu device.
There's a good reason for this, of course - companies like XOLO and Blu Products don't actually build their own devices, instead buying them from other companies (original design manufacturers, or ODMs), and rebadging them as their own. Strangely, despite the Q1000 and Win HD appearing visually identical, the dimensions that XOLO quotes for its handset do not match those of the slimmer Blu device, which is just 7.75mm thick.
XOLO's site states that the Win Q1000 will be priced at Rs.8,499 INR (around $137) when it goes on sale, but the question of when exactly that will be has not yet been answered.
XOLO's parent company, Lava, launched its first Windows Phone under its own brand a couple of months ago. At just Rs.4,999, the Iris Win1 remains one of the most affordable smartphones ever to go on sale in India.
